Wagasa（和傘） is a Japanese umbrella made of Japanese paper stretched over bamboo and soaked in vegetable oil.
和傘とは、竹に張った和紙に、植物油を染みこませたものを言います。

The umbrella was introduced from the Chinese continent in ancient times. At that time, umbrellas could not be opened and closed, and were left open, but later developed uniquely in Japan.
傘は古代、中国大陸から伝来しました。当時の傘は開閉ができず開きっぱなしのものでしたが、その後、日本で独自の発展をとげました。
The manufacturing method of washi was introduced in 610 A.D. by a monk from the Korean Peninsula.
和紙の製法が伝来したのは西暦 610 年、朝鮮半島の僧より伝わりました。
