茶道の点前の手順と飲み方を、英語で伝えてみよう ~日本文化紹介シリーズ~

【亭主の点前(ここでは風炉の平点前を紹介します)】

【The precedure of the host in a tea ceremony.】

茶碗と棗の位置を整えます。

Position the teacups and the thin tea container called Natsume.

帛紗で棗を清めます。

Cleanse the Natsume with a cloth called Fukusa.

帛紗で茶杓を清めます。

Cleanse the tea spoon called Chashaku with Fukusa.

釜の蓋を開け、蓋置の上に置きます。

Open the lid of the cauldron and place it on the lid rest called Futa-oki.

茶碗の中に湯を入れ、茶碗と茶筅を清めます。

Pour hot water into the teacup to purify the teacup and tea whisk called Chasen.

茶巾と呼ばれる別の布で茶碗を清めます。

Cleanse the teacup with another cloth called Chakin.

客に「お菓子をどうぞ」と一声かけます。

Say to the guest, “Please have a sweet”.

茶杓で抹茶をすくって茶碗に入れます。

Use the chashaku to scoop matcha into the tea bowl.

そして、茶を点てます。

Then, the tea is made.



【客における茶のいただき方】

【How to serve tea to a guest】

亭主から差し出された茶碗を、右手で自分の目の前まで持ってきて、そこに置きます。

Bring the teacup offered by the host to you with your right hand and place it in front of you.

亭主に「お点前頂戴いたします」と言います。

Say to the host, “Thank you for the tea”.

右手で茶碗を持ち、左手の手のひらに置き、時計回りに2回まわします。

Hold the teacup with your right hand, place it in the palm of your left hand, and turn it clockwise twice.

そして茶を飲みます。

Then drink the tea.

最後の一滴は、音を立てて吸います。

Slurp the last remaining drop of tea.

茶碗に口が付いた部分を、指で清めます。

Wipe the edge of the bowl with your finger.

その指を懐紙で清めます。

Cleanse your fingers with a piece of paper called Kaishi.

茶碗を床から低い位置で鑑賞します。

Place the tea bowl low to the floor for admiring.

2回茶碗を反時計回しに回して、亭主に茶碗を返します。

Turn the teacup counterclockwise twice and return it to the host.
